Question : Summarize the poem “on the vanity of Earthy Greatness”

Ans. Everybody becomes great in her time and situation but later on he/she becomes helpless and value less. all reputation and achievements will be dismissed quickly. so it is useless to take pride in one’s power as everything decays and fades away in due course of time.

The roman emperor charlemagne was a great in his time by his sword. but the power of his sword also become meaningless due to change in time. Now that sword has been rusted is kept useless in the museum. Not only the Great kings and warriors, but there is also good presentation of powerful animal  whose value has been decreased. Grizzly bear, Whose embrace was very dreadful, has become nothing more than a rug to give warmth. tusks of mighty bravels of mastodons have been changed into playing things like billiard balls. All the Given Example are concerned with the Greatness but the greatness has turned and reduced to valueless things. The vanity human greatness has been turned and reduced to valueless things. the vanity human greatness and animals’ strength have become a good subject to present irony. that irony makes one feel unwell and quite indifferent to the person.

 

Thus, our greatness is Dismissed by time. So , time laughs at our blindness and pride.

2. What are the different examples used by the poet to show the vanity of earthy greatness?

ans.  The poet used different examples like mastodons, The roman Emperor charlemagne, he grizzly bear, and the great julius caesear. The poet first draws  the example of the tusksof mastodons, which were once powerful in fighting wars but they pan things now. Secondly, the sword of great Roman Emperor charlemagne won many wars but now it is rusted likewise, he draws the example of fearfull grizly bear when it was alive, but now people sit compfortably on it fur because it has become rug . finally, he brings  the example of the great julius casear was powerful general of his time, but now his armless has become a showxcase for the people.

3.How is human vanity laughed at in the poem ” on the vanity of earthy Greatness”?

ans. The shows the bitter reality that the power of animals  or human being doesn’t remain same when time and situation change . We always run after Reputation and prestige. We want to be great and we think it will remain the same forever. We earn Prestige and we think that Credit won’t lost but actually we won’t think that it is destroyed in due course of time. Our greatness is dismissed by time. so, time laughs at our blindness and pride.
